The operational principles of NLP can be captured and recalled easily using the ABSORB mnemonic.  ABSORB are the initials of a set of powerful techniques for rapid and effective behavioural modification, and an operational philosophy to guide their use.

A.B.S.O.R.B. Attitude, Belief, Sensory-awareness, Outcome-focus, Rapport, Behaviour-flexibility

v  Attitude – The ability to deliberately chose your mental state, to match the requirements for optimum performance in any given situation or scenario.  The default NLP Attitude is one of positive curiosity.

v  Belief – Maintaining the beliefs that support and empower you and enable you to transform others and letting go of beliefs that are no longer of benefit

v  Sensory-Awareness – How you use your senses to know what is happening in your world and the world of others. Noticing when you are moving towards or away from your outcome. How your understanding of the world is increased as you use more and more of your senses

v  Outcome Focus – Keeping the outcome you want to achieve always in mind, thinking and acting based on what you want to happen

v  Rapport – The foundation of valuable relationships with others and yourself

v  Behaviour-Flexibility – Have sufficient flexibility of; ego, skills, options, etc. to vary your behaviour until you get your chosen outcome.  ‘In interactions among people, the person with the most flexibility of behaviour can control the interaction.’
